失聲祭Lacking Sound Fest :Lin Chi-Wei Artist Project <Sound Knot 1.4>

The "CREATORS" program at the Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB) collaborated to present LSF#127: Lin Chi-Wei Artist Project, featuring the premiere of a new work, Sound Knot 1.4, performed simultaneously by 24 participants, including myself. Sound Knot employs a unique form of notation created through coding. Different materials of rope represent various timbres, and performers must interpret these "sound knots" through touch in a completely dark, de-visualized environment, using tactile sensations to decipher and produce sound. As one of the performers, I explored the challenges posed by the modular openness of the composition. By refusing to adhere strictly to the prescribed instructions and frequently emitting cat-like sounds, I highlighted the participants' and audience’s critical awareness of the concept of "modularity" and their varying levels of interpretation and engagement with its boundaries.
