The history of Hong Kong, from the early Qing dynasty to the present, has always been written by people; Its narrative is cross-contextual. In Discourses on China, China is considered the center of the world, and Hong Kong has always been on the periphery. With the British colonial government’s naming, “The New Territories” came to be known as a new border under British rule.
In the earliest maps of islands, Hong Kong was a “blank space.”
Our perception of Hong Kong is flat and tasteless, contrary to reality. We are always engaging in hot pot cooking, but is it truly satisfying? It’s a cooking method that doesn’t use electricity. Within this three-dimensional space, there’s a prominent element - sound, housing the daily life of Hong Kong: social movements, shouting, electronic flows, sexual dynamics, and hair dye from Meiyuan. But it’s no different from the other meats, wrapped in a concocted & creative historical consciousness.
Kneel down and listen closely, slowly open, tug, and collide with the glass lid to feel the compressed sounds of our lives in the pot. This is a vivid world. If you want to experience the sounds beneath the surface, tear off the speaker’s skin and feel another layer with your heart.
